Fairytale Town
If you are looking for a theme park that offers creative stimulation to children rather than an assault on the senses, Fairytale Town is for you. This is a literacy based theme park (the only one in the region) which allows children to create their own games within surroundings and with characters based around their favourite nursery rhymes and stories. They can ride in Cinderella's carriage or climb Robin Hood's fort. Birthday parties are also catered for and are usually housed in King Arthur's Castle.
This is a really unique theme park, covering 2.5 acres and featuring 25 play sets. Adding to its attraction is the fact that it is a non-profit organisation and offers free tickets to low-income local school children and to the disabled. The park may be more suited to smaller children with such features as Hickory Dickory Clock and the Little Engine that Could, nevertheless as a simple, enjoyable day out it cannot be beaten. Opening hours are 12 pm to 5pm, Tuesday to Friday and 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. In July and August opening hours are 10 am to 5 pm daily. Tickets cost $5 for adults, $4 for children over 13; £3 for children aged 4 to 12 while children aged 3 or under enter for free.
